Originally this area would have belonged to the House of the Bicentenary.
The shop was found without a counter, amphorae or dolia for the storing of foodstuffs, and was most probably a craftsman’s workshop.
Nearby (V.14) was a stairway to go up to the upper dwelling quarters.

This room would have been reached through a doorway from the balcony along the façade.
The “square” holes for the support beams can be seen between the ground and upper floor levels.

According to Maiuri,
this room was the sole large room of this apartment.
The walls were
painted red with three panels separated by bands of painted candelabra with
still-life paintings in the centre of each panel.
The zoccolo/dado was
painted black.
